Our Initial Conversation
Once you have decided to try counselling, you might feel anxious about your first session. Taking the first step to make a decision to get help and address the issues takes courage and is very commendable. Knowing what to expect during your first session should help you feel more relaxed about your initial conversation.
As the relationship between the therapist and the client is a crucial factor in order for counselling to be effective, our first session is an opportunity for us to meet, for you to share what has brought you to counselling and what your expectations are. I can also answer any questions that you may have.
If you're happy to go ahead after our initial conversation, we will then enter into a therapeutic working alliance that is normally structured around weekly sessions, each session will be for 50 minutes. There is no specific number of sessions that you have to sign up for. Some people require short term therapy and others work long term, how long we work together is entirely dependent on what you feel you need and is something we will decide together.
